This guide explains how to update Cryptic Emergency Traffic to v4.0.0.

Read the release notes before installing. Use the DLL and configuration supplied with the new release, and check for older plugin copies that could load alongside it.

The complete traffic-system rewrite was introduced in v3.0.0. If you are upgrading from a version earlier than v3.0.0, also review the installation changes introduced by that rewrite.

Before Updating

  1. Close GTA V and RagePluginHook.
  2. Read the v4.0.0 release notes and included installation instructions.
  3. Back up your existing DLL and configuration.
  4. Check your GTA V Legacy plugins directory for older copies of CrypticEmergencyTraffic.dll.
  5. Remove obsolete copies from locations other than the intended installation folder.
  6. Install the new release files as described below.
Keep only one installed copy of CrypticEmergencyTraffic.dll. Duplicate copies can cause an older version to load or allow the plugin to load more than once.

Installing v4.0.0

Extract the download and copy the supplied files into:

Grand Theft Auto V Legacy\plugins\LSPDFR\

Replace the previous release files when prompted.

The required locations are:

Install any additional supplied files according to the archive’s folder structure.

Do not install the DLL directly into the main plugins folder. Remove any older copy from that location before launching the game.

Updating From Versions Earlier Than v3.0.0

The v3.0.0 rewrite changed the traffic system and configuration structure.

When upgrading from a pre-v3.0.0 release:

  1. Back up the old installation.
  2. Remove the old DLL from its previous location.
  3. Replace the old INI with the configuration supplied with v4.0.0.
  4. Install the current files inside plugins\LSPDFR.
  5. Review the new configuration before transferring preferences.
Do not carry a pre-rewrite configuration directly into the current installation. Its settings may no longer correspond to the supported traffic system.

Configuration Changes

Use CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini supplied with v4.0.0 as the starting point.

Its comments describe the available options and accepted values for that release.

Do not overwrite the new INI with a configuration from v3.0.0 or an earlier version. Older files may lack new options or contain settings that are no longer supported.

Preserving Custom Settings

To retain your preferences:

  1. Keep your previous INI as a backup.
  2. Open the newly supplied INI in a plain-text editor.
  3. Compare its settings with your backup.
  4. Transfer preferred values only where the corresponding options remain supported.
  5. Follow the new file’s descriptions, value formats and limits.
  6. Save the file and test before making further adjustments.
Start with the supplied defaults if you are unsure whether an older value remains appropriate. Reapply changes individually so their effects are easier to assess.

Configuration File Management

Cryptic Emergency Traffic does not automatically generate, modify or overwrite its configuration.

Install the updated INI manually when updating.

Launching the plugin does not add new settings to an older configuration. The INI included with each release is the reference for that version.

Reviewing Release Changes

The v3.0.0 rewrite introduced the foundation for the current traffic system, including relevance filtering, native driving behaviour and protection for LSPDFR pursuits and traffic stops.

For changes specific to v4.0.0, consult the v4.0.0 release notes.

Review the intervening release notes when skipping versions. Earlier installation changes may still apply to your setup.

After Updating

  1. Launch GTA V Legacy through RagePluginHook.
  2. Allow LSPDFR to load and go on duty.
  3. Check the RagePluginHook log for loading messages or errors.
  4. Use a supported emergency vehicle.
  5. Meet the activation conditions specified in your configuration.
  6. Test with civilian traffic ahead of you travelling in the same direction.
  7. Compare behaviour on ordinary roads and divided carriageways.

When checking pursuit or traffic-stop behaviour, distinguish ordinary civilian traffic from vehicles protected by LSPDFR handling.

Opposite-direction traffic, vehicles behind you and protected vehicles may intentionally remain unaffected.

If Problems Occur After Updating

Check that:

  • Only the current DLL is installed.
  • The DLL and INI are together in plugins\LSPDFR.
  • You are using the configuration supplied with v4.0.0.
  • All release-specific installation instructions were completed.
  • Your emergency vehicle meets the activation conditions.
  • The affected civilian traffic meets the relevance conditions.

Review the RagePluginHook log from the affected session. If necessary, back up your settings and test with the supplied defaults and other traffic-yielding plugins temporarily disabled.

When requesting support, include the version you updated from, your installed version, your INI and the affected session’s RagePluginHook log. Describe the road layout, emergency vehicle and traffic behaviour involved.
