Cryptic Emergency Traffic includes a commented CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini file for adjusting supported traffic detection and yielding settings.

Use the descriptions in the supplied INI to understand each option, its accepted values and its effect.

The configuration supplied with your installed release is the reference for that version. Setting names, default values and available options may change between releases.

Configuration Location

Keep the configuration alongside the plugin:

Preserve the INI’s filename and location. When saving it in a text editor, make sure it remains CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini rather than CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini.txt.

Editing the Configuration

  1. Close GTA V and RagePluginHook.
  2. Back up your current CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini.
  3. Open the file in a plain-text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++.
  4. Read the comments beside the setting you want to change.
  5. Edit its value using the documented format and limits.
  6. Save the file.
  7. Launch GTA V through RagePluginHook and test the result.
Preserve section headings and setting names. Unsupported values or formatting changes may prevent settings from being read correctly.
Make small adjustments and test one setting at a time. Use similar road and traffic conditions when comparing results.

How Detection Settings Affect Traffic

Cryptic Emergency Traffic focuses on civilian vehicles relevant to your emergency response rather than making every nearby vehicle react.

The traffic system considers factors such as:

  • Whether your emergency vehicle meets the activation conditions
  • The civilian vehicle’s position relative to you
  • Direction of travel
  • Distance between vehicles
  • Relative speed
  • Road and carriageway relationship
  • Whether the vehicle is protected from normal yielding behaviour

Passing a distance check alone does not make a vehicle eligible to react.

A nearby vehicle may intentionally remain unaffected because it is behind you, travelling in the opposite direction, on another carriageway or involved in a protected situation.

Direction and Carriageway Checks

The plugin focuses on relevant traffic ahead of you travelling in the same direction.

Opposite-direction traffic and vehicles on an opposite carriageway are normally excluded from yielding behaviour.

These checks help distinguish traffic on your route from nearby vehicles on divided roads, motorways and separated traffic flows.

Increasing detection distances does not remove the need for direction and road relevance checks. A physically close vehicle may still be outside your response path.

Distance and Relative Speed

Distance and relative speed help the system assess whether traffic ahead needs to respond.

Relative speed describes how quickly the gap between your emergency vehicle and a civilian vehicle is changing. Approaching slower traffic creates a different situation from following traffic moving at a similar speed.

Only adjust related options where they are documented in your installed INI.

If reactions seem too early or too late, review the relevant setting comments before increasing detection ranges. Test a small change before adjusting other options.

Yielding Behaviour

Cryptic Emergency Traffic uses GTA V’s native driving AI to handle civilian steering and lane positioning.

The yielding system avoids directly forcing vehicles to a particular forward speed or sending them to predetermined coordinate targets.

The resulting movement still depends on road layout, surrounding vehicles and GTA V’s driving AI.

Yielding will not look identical in every situation. Congested roads, junctions and limited space can affect how a driver responds.

Protected Vehicles

The traffic system excludes vehicles associated with situations that should remain under their existing control, including:

  • Active LSPDFR pursuits
  • LSPDFR traffic stops
  • AI backup
  • Other emergency vehicles
Protected vehicles remaining unaffected is intended behaviour. Detection settings should not be used to try to make these vehicles yield as ordinary civilian traffic.

Adjusting Settings Responsibly

Detection changes can affect which vehicles are evaluated and when they become eligible to react.

The effect depends on the particular option. Increasing a range may widen detection, while changing a threshold may make a check more or less restrictive.

Larger values do not automatically produce better traffic behaviour. Excessive adjustments can lead to earlier, broader or less suitable reactions.

If behaviour becomes worse:

  1. Restore the last working value.
  2. Repeat the test under similar conditions.
  3. Check whether another traffic-management plugin is affecting the same vehicles.
  4. Restore the supplied defaults if you cannot isolate the change.

Updating to v4.0.0

Use the CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini supplied with v4.0.0.

  1. Close GTA V and RagePluginHook.
  2. Back up your existing configuration.
  3. Install the new release using its supplied folder structure.
  4. Open the new INI and compare it with your backup.
  5. Transfer preferred values only into corresponding options that remain supported.
  6. Test before making further adjustments.
Do not overwrite the v4.0.0 configuration with an INI from v3.0.0 or an earlier release. Use the new file’s setting names, structure and documented values.

Configuration File Management

Cryptic Emergency Traffic does not automatically generate, modify or overwrite its configuration file.

Install the supplied INI manually and save your edits before launching the game.

Launching the plugin will not add newly introduced options to an older configuration. Obtain the updated INI from the release download.

Restoring Default Settings

  1. Close GTA V and RagePluginHook.
  2. Back up your edited INI.
  3. Extract a fresh CrypticEmergencyTraffic.ini from the download matching your installed version.
  4. Replace the installed INI with that file.
  5. Launch the game and test again.
Replacing the INI resets the custom values stored in it. Keep your backup if you want to restore those settings later.
