Updating Cryptic Callouts

This guide explains how to update Cryptic Callouts in your Grand Theft Auto V Legacy installation.

Read the release notes before replacing files. An update may introduce new callouts, configuration options, accompanying files or installation requirements.

Before Updating

  1. Close GTA V and RagePluginHook.
  2. Read the release notes and any installation instructions included with the new version.
  3. Check for changes to dependencies or version requirements.
  4. Back up your existing Cryptic Callouts files and configuration.
Follow any release-specific update instructions. Copying new files over an older installation may not complete an update that requires files to be removed, relocated or replaced.

Installing the Update

  1. Download the latest release from LCPDFR.com.
  2. Extract the downloaded archive.
  3. Review its folder structure and included instructions.
  4. Copy the supplied files into your GTA V Legacy installation directory, preserving that structure.
  5. Allow folders to merge and replace older Cryptic Callouts files when prompted.
  6. Complete any additional steps specified in the release notes.

The plugin belongs in:

Grand Theft Auto V Legacy\plugins\LSPDFR\

Install all files supplied for the update in their intended locations. Replacing only the plugin may leave accompanying files outdated or missing.

Updating Your Configuration

Use the configuration included with the new release as your starting point.

  1. Keep your previous configuration as a backup.
  2. Open the newly supplied configuration in a plain-text editor.
  3. Compare its options with your backup.
  4. Transfer your preferred values into settings that remain supported.
  5. Review new options and their accompanying comments.
  6. Save the file before launching the game.
Do not overwrite the new configuration with your old file. Older configurations may be missing new settings or contain options that are no longer supported.
Check individual callout settings after updating so the enabled selection matches your preferences.

After Updating

  1. Launch GTA V Legacy through RagePluginHook.
  2. Load LSPDFR and go on duty.
  3. Check your RagePluginHook log for Cryptic Callouts loading messages or errors.
  4. Test the plugin during normal gameplay.
Callout selection is random. Not receiving a newly added scenario immediately does not necessarily indicate an update problem.
Keep your previous version and configuration backed up until you have confirmed that the update works correctly.

Updating From Older Versions

If you are moving from a significantly older release, review the intervening release notes for changes that still apply to the current installation.

Check for:

  • Changes to file locations or installation structure
  • New or changed dependencies
  • Configuration changes
  • Files explicitly marked for removal
  • Removed or replaced features
Follow instructions for removing obsolete files when they are provided. Leaving outdated files in place or skipping required changes can cause loading errors or unexpected behaviour.

If Problems Occur After Updating

Check that:

  • You installed the complete update using the supplied folder structure.
  • You completed any additional release-specific instructions.
  • Your dependencies meet the release requirements.
  • Your configuration uses the structure supplied with the new version.
  • Any obsolete files identified in the release notes were removed.

Review your RagePluginHook log for relevant errors.

When requesting support, include the version you updated from, the version you installed, your RagePluginHook log and a description of the issue. If it happens during a callout, include the callout name and what occurred before the problem.
