When a new version of Cryptic Callouts is released, follow the update instructions carefully to ensure the new version is installed correctly.

Before updating, always check the release notes for important changes.

Before Updating

Before replacing any files:

  1. Close GTA V.
  2. Close RagePluginHook.
  3. Back up your existing Cryptic Callouts configuration file.
  4. Read the release notes for the new version.
Do not assume every update can simply be copied over the previous version. Some updates may include new files, changed settings, or additional installation instructions.

Updating the Plugin

To update Cryptic Callouts:

  1. Download the latest version.
  2. Extract the downloaded archive.
  3. Review the included files and installation instructions.
  4. Copy the updated files into your GTA V installation.
  5. Replace existing files when required.
  6. Review your configuration file for any new or changed settings.
If a new version includes an updated configuration file, do not automatically overwrite your customised configuration without checking whether your existing settings need to be transferred.

After Updating

After installing the update:

  1. Launch GTA V through RagePluginHook.
  2. Start LSPDFR.
  3. Confirm that Cryptic Callouts loads successfully.
  4. Test the plugin during gameplay.

Check the relevant logs if you encounter problems.

Keep your previous version backed up until you have confirmed that the new version is working correctly.

Updating From Older Versions

If you are updating from a significantly older version, read all relevant release notes rather than only the latest changelog.

You may have missed:

  • Important installation changes
  • New dependencies
  • Configuration changes
  • Removed or replaced features
Skipping important update instructions can result in missing files, outdated configuration settings, or a plugin that fails to load correctly.
