Installation Basics
General guidance for installing Cryptic mods correctly.
This guide covers the general installation process used by Cryptic mods.
Individual mods may have different files, requirements, or installation locations, so always follow the instructions provided for the specific mod you are installing.
Before You Begin
Before installing a Cryptic mod, make sure:
- Grand Theft Auto V is installed correctly.
- LSPDFR is installed and working.
- RagePluginHook and LSPDFR launch successfully.
- You have checked the requirements for the specific mod.
Do not install a mod without checking its specific requirements. Missing dependencies or installing files in the wrong location may prevent the mod from loading correctly.
Basic Installation Process
Most Cryptic mods will follow a similar installation process:
- Download the latest version of the mod.
- Extract the downloaded archive.
- Read the included installation instructions.
- Copy the required files into your GTA V or LSPDFR directory.
- Configure the mod if configuration files are provided.
- Launch LSPDFR and confirm that the mod loads correctly.
Installation locations vary between mods. Always use the installation path specified in that mod's documentation.
Configuration Files
Some Cryptic mods include configuration files that allow you to customise features and behaviour.
If a configuration file is included:
- Do not delete it unless instructed to do so.
- Check the documentation before changing settings.
- Keep a backup before making significant changes.
If you are updating a mod, back up your existing configuration file first so you do not lose your preferred settings.
After Installation
After installing a mod:
- Launch GTA V through RagePluginHook.
- Start LSPDFR.
- Confirm the plugin loads successfully.
- Test the mod in-game.
If you experience crashes or errors after installing a mod, do not immediately reinstall everything. Check the relevant troubleshooting documentation first to identify the cause.
